Cambodia: Training Nuns To Be Counsellors
Interview with to Chan Sobunvy, Secretary General of the Association of Nuns and Laywomen of Cambodia
The Cambodian Khmer people have a proud Buddhist heritage going back to the
5th century, but, in today’s society, Buddhism has become more a ritual and an identity than a philosophy to guide one’s life. In this interview, Lotus Communication Network’s Kalinga Seneviratne talks to Chan Sobunvy, secretary general of the Association of Nuns and Laywomen of Cambodia about attempts to train Buddhist nuns as counselors, especially for young girls. This interview was recorded in Phnom Penh in July 2013.
